Your Questions (YQ’s)

So, you might have some questions??

Your Questions! (YQ’s)

What is a Book Coach?

I prefer to be called a skipper. it sounds more fun, less rigorous. I won’t shout at you and tell you to drop and do fifty push-ups. Maybe I’ll ask you to do fifty pages of writing, but no physical tasks unless it’s forcing your fingers to fly across the keyboard!

Who am I?

Ahoy! I am Amy, your guide through the perilous adventure of writing your nonfiction book. You are in the capable hands of an experienced sailor and book coach! I am a retired special education teacher whose birds have sailed from the nest. My what next has been to write to my own books and help others to do the same thing!

Why do I need a book coach?

Who doesn’t need a coach, a mentor, a sounding board, a first mate or skipper to help steer the boat, I mean book in the right direction? I do, I did, and I still do on new projects.

How much time will I spend with a book coach?

As much time as you want! We could work for your twenty minutes complimentary call, and hour to work out some knots, a few weeks or months to prepare a proposal or whatever time frame we determine will work best. Not all coach client pairings work out, we are humans, and we don’t always click, so I have an intake process that allows us time to get to know each other better.

When will we work together?

I have a few mornings, afternoons and limited evenings available at this time. I will work on Saturday mornings, but not on Sundays. I have a zoom account and google meets. If you are local, we can meet locally!

How and where will work together?

I have a zoom account and google meets. If you are local, we can meet locally? I prefer to word in Word but am fluent in Google Docs as well and use Drop Box if necessary.

What will it cost to work with Amy, the Book Skipper?

This is a difficult question to ask. I look at each project differently. Some writers have an outline, a manuscript or a few pages, so this will alter the length of time we need to work. My hourly rate is $73, but I often offer discounts for multiple hours or batch it in a lump, which lowers the cost for the writer because it guarantees a solid payment and consistent work coming in for me. It is very negotiable. I do not lower my rates or undercut my time and experience. I work hard to make your words work for your book. Occasionally, I will volunteer my knowledge for a worthy cause, so it never hurts to ask!

What type of guarantee do you offer?

I guarantee your book will be better with another set of eyes upon it. We all need feedback of some sort. Feedback from friends and family is just dandy, but a professional critique from a book coach is unique. I will give you constructive actional next steps that steer you in the right direction. While I cannot guarantee that your book will be picked up by an agent and published, I can guarantee that your book will be set up to for the self-publishing process. Publishing a book is not a whimsical hobby for most people. It takes time, it takes, money, patience and perseverance. It’s a little like buying a boat. You have to really love that boat to keep throwing money at it to keep it afloat. BOAT, Bring out another thousand. Your book is the same but more, Book-bring out over thousands! I just want to keep it real. Everyone says they want to write a book, but few do. Those who are dedicated to do the work, write, edit and market will see their dream set sail into the world.
